Talala vs Caliber: Which Strength App Is Right for You in 2026?

October 22, 2026

Caliber is really three things at three prices: a free workout tracker, Caliber Plus with coach-designed plans for $9 to $12 a month (App Store), and 1-on-1 coaching with a real trainer that starts at around $200 a month, according to Caliber's sign-up quiz. Talala, the AI personal trainer app, builds a plan only for you and has your coach talk you through every set, and right now it's free.

Maybe you're new to the weights area, Caliber keeps coming up, and you're not sure which version people mean when they say it's good. Or you got to the end of its coaching quiz and saw the price.

How do Talala and Caliber compare side by side?

Price is where the three Caliber options are furthest apart.

Is Caliber worth it?

If you want a real trainer and around $200 a month works for your budget, a lot of people think so. Caliber says more than a million people use the app (Caliber), and it has 4.9 stars from nearly 1,000 reviews on Trustpilot.

These are the things that kept coming up when I read about it.

  • A real trainer. On Premium you're matched with a coach who builds your training and nutrition plan, reviews your progress every week and gives feedback on form videos you send (App Store). You can get on live video calls too (Caliber FAQ). Garage Gym Reviews scored it 4.68 out of 5, with 5s for accountability and instruction.
  • A real free version. You can create and track unlimited workouts with 800+ exercises, and train with friends in private workout circles (App Store).
  • People in their 30s and 40s. Caliber says its average member is 38 and 40% of members are over 40 (Caliber FAQ).
  • Guarantees. There's a 30-day money-back guarantee (Caliber FAQ), Caliber says it'll refund the cost of coaching if you don't see results (App Store), and its coaching quiz says coaching is HSA/FSA eligible (Caliber's sign-up quiz).
  • Android. It works on iPhone and Android today (Google Play).

There were some complaints too.

  • Price. Garage Gym Reviews gave pricing 3.5 out of 5 and wrote that "not everyone can afford to pay $200 per month for a workout plan." BarBend said the same thing: "a $200 monthly charge is not feasible for every budget." Both reviews were last updated in May 2025.
  • Filming yourself. BarBend's tester said "uploading videos for form correction can be quite the hassle."
  • Reply times. Caliber's App Store listing says coaches typically reply within a few hours, and its FAQ adds "within business hours." That's fast for a person, but it won't help with a question you've got halfway through a set.

So if you want a real person checking your form and getting on video calls with you (Caliber FAQ), I'd go with Caliber's coaching. Talala is AI, and there's nobody on the other end of a video call.

How is Talala different from Caliber?

Caliber's free app costs nothing, and in it you build your own workouts (Garage Gym Reviews). Caliber Plus gives you 120+ coach-designed plans to pick from for $9 to $12 a month (App Store), and a coach who builds a plan just for you starts at around $200 a month, according to Caliber's sign-up quiz. Talala is free right now, and the plan is built only for you.

Your plan is only yours. Your coach starts off by understanding *you*. Talala begins with a chat about what you want (stronger, toned, glutes), how many days you've actually got, anything injured or sensitive, and what equipment your gym has. You can snap a photo of the equipment if you don't know what half of it is called. Then it builds a plan around your week, with a yearly roadmap, monthly milestones and a plan review.

If your knee's been cranky, your coach can leave that area out completely, or keep the move in and add a personal note on how to modify it.

During the workout, your coach is in your ear every single set. It tells you the exact weight, reps and sets, how the move should feel, and why you're doing this exercise today. There are form videos from creators on social media to follow along with, muscle diagrams showing where you should feel it, and 500+ exercises with modifications customized to you. If step-by-step video tutorials for the big moves are what you're after, Caliber has those, including multi-step tutorials for moves like the deadlift and bench press (Caliber FAQ).

And if you feel a little watched in the weights area, you can ask the gym questions you'd never ask a trainer, basically 24/7, even mid-set, like whether this weight is too light. Go light, ask anything. No one's watching but your coach.

It works with Apple Watch and Apple Health too. On food, your coach answers nutrition questions that tie into your training, but it won't write you a meal plan. If you want a nutrition plan from a person, that's Caliber's Premium Coaching (App Store).

A Caliber coach is a real person (Caliber FAQ), and they're probably training 20 or more other people too, so it's easy for them to forget what you logged a few weeks ago. Your Talala coach never does. It's the trainer that remembers every set you've ever logged.

It's still in beta, though, and there's no human trainer on the other end.

Should you pick Talala or Caliber?

I'd go with Talala if you want to walk into the gym knowing exactly what to do, with a plan built only for you and someone talking you through every set.

I'd go with Caliber's Premium Coaching if a real person is the point, someone who'll get on a video call (Caliber FAQ), look at your form videos and write your nutrition plan (App Store), and around $200 a month (Caliber's sign-up quiz) fits your budget. Caliber's free app is a good pick if you already know what you want to do and mostly want somewhere to log it (App Store). It's also the one to pick if you're on Android right now (Google Play). Since Talala is free right now, you could try it alongside Caliber's free app and see which one you keep opening.
