Price and timing are where they're furthest apart.

Is Future worth $199 a month?
If a real person is what you're after and the budget's there, a lot of people think so. Future has a 4.9-star rating from about 11,000 ratings on the App Store.
Going by Future's own help center and a few reviews, this is what you're paying for.
- A real person. Your coach builds "a long term training plan tailored to your goals, lifestyle, and needs" and adjusts it week to week based on your feedback (Future help center). If the fit's off, you can switch coaches for free (Future help center).
- Their voice in your workout. BarBend's reviewer said you start a workout and "you'll hear a voice recording from your coach" about the goals of the session (BarBend).
- Form checks from a human. You can record your form mid-workout and send it to your coach. Bustle's reviewer sent videos of her deadlifts and said her coach "always responded while I was mid-workout" (Bustle).
- Android and HSA/FSA. It works on Android today (Future FAQ), and Future partners with Truemed so you might be able to use HSA or FSA money if you qualify (Future help center).
There were some complaints too.
- Price. BarBend called the monthly fee "steep" (BarBend, updated May 2025), and Garage Gym Reviews put "$199 per month membership cost" first on its cons list (Garage Gym Reviews).
- Real-time coaching. Garage Gym Reviews also listed "No real-time coaching from your trainer," and said that while you might not get cues on your movement in the moment, "you can at least get feedback for the next time" (Garage Gym Reviews).
- The watch. BarBend said people without a compatible smartwatch "will be limited in the workout data your trainer receives" (BarBend).
- U.S. only. You need a U.S. payment method and phone number to sign up (Future help center).
So if a real person is the whole point, I'd go with Future. Talala is AI, and there's nobody on the other end of a video call.
How is Talala different from Future?
Price is the biggest gap. Future is $199 a month, and even if you pay for a full year up front it's $1,788 (Future help center). Talala is free right now.
The other big gap is timing. With Talala, your coach is there basically 24/7, so you can ask mid-set whether the weight's too light, or at 11pm whether tomorrow's leg day still makes sense after a long week. You get an answer right then. With Future you're messaging a real person, and Future says your coach will "respond in real-time as you need changes or have questions" (Future FAQ). But your Future coach is probably training 20 or more other people too, so it's easy for them to forget what you logged a few weeks ago. Your Talala coach never does. It's the trainer that remembers every set you've ever logged.
During the workout, your coach is in your ear every set, telling you the exact weight and reps, how the move should feel and why it's in today's session. Future has your coach's voice in the workout too, introducing it and guiding you through the key moves (Future help center), so that part's closer than you'd think.
Some questions also feel a bit awkward to ask a person. You can ask the gym questions you'd never ask a trainer, like which one is the hip abductor, or whether it's okay that you went lighter today. Go light, ask anything. No one's watching but your coach.
Your coach gets to know you well, too. Your plan is only yours. Talala starts with a chat about what you want, how many days you've actually got, anything injured or sensitive, and what's in your gym (you can just snap a photo of the equipment). Then it builds your plan with a yearly roadmap, monthly milestones and a plan review. If your knee's sensitive, your coach can leave it out completely or keep the move in an easier version with a personal note on how to modify it. There are 500+ exercises with modifications customized to you, form videos from social media to follow along with, and muscle diagrams showing where you should feel each move.
On food, they're pretty close. Future's coaches share general nutrition tips but don't write meal plans or set calorie targets (Future help center). Your Talala coach answers nutrition questions that tie into your training, like what to eat before a morning workout, but it won't write you a meal plan either.
It's still in beta, though, and there's no human coach on the other end.
Should you pick Talala or Future?
I'd go with Talala if $199 a month feels like a lot right now, you want answers mid-set or late at night, or there are things you'd feel a bit awkward asking a person.
I'd go with Future if a real person is the point, someone who'll get on a video call with you (Future FAQ), look at the form videos you record (Future help center) and, in Future's words, hold you accountable (Future). It also makes sense if you're on Android right now (Future FAQ) and $199 a month (Future help center) fits your budget. Since Talala is free right now, you could try it alongside Future's refundable first month (Future help center) and see which one you keep opening.
Talala vs Future FAQ
Is Future worth it in 2026?
For a lot of people, yes, if you want a real coach and $199 a month fits your budget. It has a 4.9-star rating from about 11,000 ratings on the App Store. BarBend liked that "Future's coaches tailor your weekly workouts to your needs" but called the price steep, and Garage Gym Reviews scored it 4.3 with "No real-time coaching from your trainer" as a con.
How much does Future cost?
It's $199 a month on the monthly plan. Longer plans bring the monthly price down: $537 for 3 months, $1,014 for 6 months, or $1,788 for 12 months (Future help center). As of October 2026, the homepage shows "$50 first month, then $199/month" (Future). There's no free trial, but if you're not happy with your first month, Future says it'll refund it. If you prepay and cancel early, Future refunds the unused part, but counts the months you used at the $199 monthly price (Future help center).
Is Talala really free?
Yes, Talala is free right now on iPhone, with Android coming soon.
Is Future cheaper than an in-person personal trainer?
Often, yes. Future's $199 gets you a month of coaching (Future help center), while The Everygirl put a single in-person session at $50 to $100 (The Everygirl). Talala is free right now, with no last-minute 24-hour cancellation fees like you might get with an in-person trainer.
Is Future or Talala available on Android?
Future works on iPhone and Android (Future help center), but only in the U.S. (Future help center). Talala is on iPhone, with Android coming soon.
I'm on the Talala team, but I really did use all the other apps here.
