Cable Chest Press
- Reps
- 8–12
- Kit
- Cable machine
How to do it
- 1
Set both cables at chest height with a handle on each. Hold one in each hand, facing away from the machine, and step forward until there's tension.
- 2
Stand in a split stance (one foot forward). Squeeze your shoulder blades together, like pinching a pencil between them.
- 3
Tighten your core. Breathe out as you push the handles forward until your arms are almost straight.
- 4
Breathe in as you let them come back slowly until you feel a stretch across your chest.
Where you should feel it: Your chest and the back of your arms.
What your coach says mid-set
- “Press straight forward, arms long”
- “Ribs down, chest tall”
- “Bring the handles back with control”
Common mistakes
Leaning your whole body into the press
Keep your body still and let your arms do the pressing.
Shrugging your shoulders up as you press
Slide your shoulders down away from your ears before each press.
Felt it somewhere else?
Where did you feel it?
Bring the handles down closer to chest height and shorten the press so your shoulders stay relaxed.
